Philippines is experiencing different types of natural phenomena and one of this natural phenomena that our country experienced is an earthquake. Our country is experiencing earthquakes because of its location. The Philippines lies along the dangerous ring and this is the Pacific Ring of Fire and because of that we are prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions caused by the movement of tectonic plates. Earthquakes can take many lives, properties, structures and many more.
The strongest and deadliest earthquake that our country experienced was the Moro Gulf Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9, occurred in the island of Mindanao on August 17, 1976. It was a violent earthquake that destroyed many and different properties and took initially over 8, 000 lives.
Is there any way to prevent earthquakes? We cannot prevent natural earthquakes from occurring, but we can make its effect less severe by knowing what to do before, during and after the earthquake. Taking a part in this National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is very important because this program of the government can help us prepare and learn how to react immediately and appropriately when there are earthquakes. Earthquake Drills had many helpful lessons that can give to us. As the saying goes "Practice makes perfect" and if we apply this in performing and practicing earthquake drills it can help us to be prepared. Then, when a real emergency happens, we can apply what we practice and knowledge according what to do when there are earthquakes.
