Signing Off

Well, I'd say things have improved....at least, I believe they have. I was genuinely interested in what we were accomplishing this quarter. I could express myself in a variety of ways, such as on our blog. Despite the fact that I had a tough quarter. I learnt a lot, particularly about how to create and design web pages. Despite the numerous distractions that arose during my learning journey, I completed it and can confidently state that I did a decent job.

This quarter, not only about the web page, but also about the learning process, there will be a lot of new ideas to learn. I discovered that listening is an important aspect of learning. Curiosity is also the first step in the learning process. I also discovered that learning requires me to be open to new ideas. We won't be able to learn new things if we aren't receptive to new ideas, and we will become engrossed in old ones. I discovered this because I recognized I used to have a lot of preconceptions, which I was only able to fix once I became more open to new ideas.

This quarter was quite difficult for me. But the important part is that I learned a lot of new stuff. It was clear to me that all of the effort had been worthwhile.

Restore

Every year on June 5, the United Nations celebrates World Environment Day, which serves as a major platform for raising environmental awareness and encouraging people to take action. This year's theme is 'Ecosystem Restoration,' which emphasizes the crucial need of sustaining eco-fragility for human well-being.

The theme of World Environment Day 2021 is "Ecosystem Restoration," and Pakistan will host the event. This World Environment Day will mark the start of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a global effort to restore billions of hectares of land, from forests to farmlands, from the highest peaks to the deepest depths of the ocean.

Humans have been abusing and ruining the planet's ecosystems for far too long. Every three seconds, the globe loses enough forest to cover a football field, and we have lost half of the world's wetlands in the previous century. Global greenhouse gas emissions have increased for three years in a row, indicating that the world is on the verge of catastrophic climate change. We must now radically reconsider our relationship with the living world, natural ecosystems, and biodiversity, and try to restore it.

What is an ecosystem?

An ecosystem is a group of plants and animals that interact with one another as well as their non-living surroundings in a specific location. Weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, and atmosphere are among the non-living surroundings. The ecosystem refers to the manner that all of these various organisms coexist in close quarters and interact with one another.

What is ecosystem restoration?

To transition from exploiting nature to healing it, ecosystem restoration entails avoiding, halting, and reversing the damage. Ecosystem restoration entails assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as the preservation of intact ecosystems. Restoration can take several forms, including actively planting or relieving pressures to allow nature to regenerate on its own.

How can the ecosystem be restored?

Forests, farmlands, towns, wetlands, and oceans are all examples of ecosystems that can be restored. Governments and development organizations, as well as corporations, communities, and individuals, can undertake restoration programs. Because the causes of degradation are numerous and diverse, they can have an impact on various scales.

Degradation can occur as a result of detrimental policies like subsidies for intensive farming or inadequate tenure laws that encourage deforestation, for example. Because of poor waste management or an industrial catastrophe, lakes and coastlines can become polluted. Commercial pressures can result in too much asphalt and too few green spaces in cities.

Freedom

Many individuals, including government officials, employees, and students, take part in nationwide parades on Independence Day. The primary event, though, is a police and military parade in Manila led by the country's current president, which will be followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute. A large number of Filipinos spend their days in parks and shopping centers. Many Filipino communities around the world celebrate the country's Independence Day.

One of the most cherished moments in our long history as Filipinos is the official declaration of independence. Our independence is priceless after centuries of being colonized by a variety of nations. After President Diosdado Macapagal altered the date from July 4, the day when a treaty establishing the Philippines' independence from the United States was signed, Philippine Independence Day has been observed every June 12 since 1962.

The relocationmade to commemorate Emilio Aguinaldo's proclamation of independence from the Spaniards. Philippine Republic Day, or American-Filipino Friendship Day, was declared on July 4th. Let us recall phrases and quotations from renowned Filipinos who were significant figures in the independence that we have today to honor the 122nd Independence Day of the Philippines and to remind us why it is vital to commemorate this historic proclamation.

This day is not just an ordinary day, it is a day on which Filipinos commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of warriors and heroes who battled for our homeland. Their courage in the face of colonizers, as well as their determination to freeing the country, should be remembered by today's and future generations. These brave gestures should be cherished as much as the gift of sovereignty.

Not only should this holiday be observed, but it should also be remembered for its historical significance in the Philippines. Many Filipinos sacrificed their time, energy, and lives to ensure our independence. Their bravery should serve as a lesson for all people of this country. We may have varied ways of expressing our love for the Philippines, but let us appreciate even the small gestures we do to demonstrate how much we care about our homeland.

Being a law abiding citizen or supporting the country in your own small manner is already an act of showing your love, as basic as keeping our surroundings clean and organized. On this day, we also recognize the sacrifices made by front-line workers and critical personnel in order to assist our country in times of need. May this day serve as a reminder of our hard-won freedom as well as an occasion to celebrate Filipino heritage, culture, and custom. Our diverse traditions and culture from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao demonstrate that the Filipino character is more than just bold and fearless. Filipinos are gifted and skilled in a wide range of fields.

Priceless Treasure

Mother is the one who is most likely to wield all of the power. A mother is the most powerful creature in the universe! In every situation, she can handle and control everything. In other words, God has granted her the authority to handle all of the world's concerns. A single Mother's Day celebration is insufficient to express gratitude to all of the world's mothers. At any cost, no one can ever replace her. Everyone should shower lots of love and care to her for their sacrifices.

It is common knowledge that honoring a mother's contributions to our lives takes more than a day or two. However, a day has been set aside to make all moms proud of themselves and recognize that life would not be what it is today if they had not been present. It comes in the month of May every year and reminds people of the courage of a mother that she shows up in order to make our life a brighter one.

Our mothers hold a particular place in our hearts. She smiles for us even when she is exhausted. She assists us in the preparation of project and homework assignments, as well as during exam periods. She looks after our school clothes and uniform. She instills in us the need of washing our hands with soap and water before eating anything. She teaches us good manners, etiquette, morality, humanity, and helping others always in life.

She takes care of every members of the family. We all too love her too much. She has such patience that she listens to all of our difficulties and offers the best solution for each one. Even if we make a mistake in life, she never lets us down and keeps us motivated for as long as she lives. Love our mothers since they were the ones who initially loved us before we were born.

Challenges Of Covid-19

The streets were closed, and crowds gathered in specific areas. Drums are pounding incessantly. The street dancers enthusiastically declare "Viva Vigan!" in colorful costumes. The Binatbatan Festival has grown to become one of the major cultural events in the Philippines' northwestern archipelago. Binatbatan Festival is more than just a festival, with participants dressed in abel Iloko, a woven fabric native to the Ilocos Region. It highlights Vigan's rich culture and traditional industry.

Binatbatan Festival has its origins in Vigan's abel weaving business, which existed long before the Spaniards arrived to colonize the Philippines. It comes from the word batbat, which refers to a pair of bamboo sticks used to remove cotton pods from kapas sanglay trees. In Ilocano, the word "kapas" comes from the term "kapas sanglay," which means "cotton."

Binatbatan Festival street dancers happily and enthusiastically wave their "batbat," some imitating the manner used by abel-weavers in separating cottons as they gracefully perform the process artistically to the beat of drums and lyres rolling along the historic streets of Vigan's heritage city. Binatbatan Street Dancers also have a basket behind them in which they place cotton pods harvested from the kapas sanglay tree. The fruits of the Kapas sanglay tree dry up at the tree's branches before falling off after the fruit breaks open on its own, revealing the seed-filled cottons inside.

But now... All this amazing and enjoying activities during Binatbatan Festival are gone because of the pandemic. COVID-19 affected the Binatbatan Festival celebration. The things that we used to do and we used to see when the city of Vigan celebrates their festival are gone and this is because of the COVID-19. Just like last year, Binatbatan festival celebrated differently. People right now should stay in their homes because staying at home is the safest thing to do during this pandemic. This situation makes me sad and I know that others felt the same.

Additionally, based on what I observed, there are still challenges during the Binatbatan Festival and one of this is the situation that we are facing right now. In which, we can’t experience the things that we used to do when the Binatbatan Festival begins. People right now should stay in their homes to avoid COVID-19.

To sum it up, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a big effect in Binatbatan Festival celebration. COVID-19 is truly dangerous and destructive, but, I believe that we can overcome this problem. Hopefully, this pandemic will end soon so that we can all go back to normal and we can again do what we want and we can experience again the cheerful celebration of Binatbatan Festival.

The Voice Of Woman

Not long ago, Bigueña women faced tremendous barriers as they sought opportunities that would set them on an equal footing with men. Going back a mere quarter century, inequality between women and men was widely apparent—in university classrooms, in the workplace, and even in homes.

Bigueña women are discriminated in some societies because of their gender. They are not given the same right as men. They are also paid less and are forced to cook, clean, and do other household chores. They are unable to go out at night or with men. They also don't let them work or study outside their home because they believe women are weaker than men.

Furthermore, some Bigueña women marry at a young age, while others are forced to marry by their parents. In today's society, women's advancement is critical. It is important for women's self-esteem as well as for societies.

Women's empowerment is a component of encouraging women to feel strong by telling them that they can do everything they set their minds to. They should work outside their home and have the freedom to make their own decisions. They are not reliant on men for their survival. They will help their families by performing to the best of their ability.

Empowerment aids in the reduction of domestic violence by encouraging people to respect and promote women. Women are not abused in any way, including sexual, emotional, or physical violence.

In help of women empowerment, women are now achieving high-level positions in the same way as men do. Some women are appointed to positions such as president, mayor, community head, and other high-ranking positions. And many women are now politically, educationally, and economically active members of society.

Women should engage equally in education, culture, economy, and politics. Women may participate in society because they have the freedom to choose their religious, language, occupation, and other activities. Women have the same access to higher education as men. They can continue their education at a high level, complete their lessons, learn a trade, and study whatever they want. Women may also participate in politics because they have the right to vote and participate in certain political events. Giving women the right to be empowered is empowering women. Continue to promote and support women empowerment.

Hardwork Is The Key

Well, I would have to say things have changed for the better….I think. This quarter I actually had some interest in what we were doing. I could do a lot of opinionated things like our blog things. Despite the fact that this quarter was also stressful for me. I learned a lot of things, particularly about making a community-based research. Despite of many distractions that came up to my way upon my learning journey, I still finished and I can say that I did a good job.

A lot of new ideas can be learned this quarter, not only about the Community-Based Research but also the learning process. I learned that listening is a big part of learning. Being curious is also the beginning of the learning process. I also realized that being open to new ideas is crucial to learning. If we are not open to new ideas, we would not be able to learn new things and we will be absorbed with old ideas. I learned this because I realized that I had a lot of misconceptions before and I was only able to correct them when I became open to new ideas.

This quarter was really hard for me. But I learned a lot of new things and that’s what matters. I realized that it was worth all the hard work.
